Truza - Fell In Amore With The New Space!

Persona:

Don- a single man who loved sports cars, his Harley and running his successful business.  Being of Italian heritage, he appreciates the good life and old world charm.

The Project:

The décor of Don's house was inadequate both for his business and his personal life.  The bland, generic space didn't reflect the full spectrum of Don's personality and business needs.

The Results:

Building Ideas did a complete makeover of the space from front door to back door.  Don is proud to receive many compliments on the custom iron work which transformed an ordinary front door into an beautiful symbol of the luxury waiting inside.  Opening the door, one immediately sees the beautiful faux finish on the walls, the Tuscan inspired warm tones, more custom wrought iron on the staircase and around the window, and the welcoming stencil above the living room that proudly presents "Villa Truza".

The kitchen is a unique retreat with whimsical details such as a vintage two-face wall mounted clock and outdoors lights with flickering flames placed in the breakfast table.  In his conversations with Angelique, Don mentioned he loves birds.  So, taking imagination to another height, Angelique had custom-painted and handmade birds placed throughout the kitchen, creating not only a unique and personalized detail for Don, but also a conversation-starter for guests who are challenged to find all the birds hiding in the kitchen.

The living room is an inviting yet impressive space with old world charm.  A tapestry covers much of one wall, next to a beautifully finished vintage-looking solid wood armoire.  Luxury and comfort blend throughout: leather chairs and sofa, a soft patterned rug, a glass coffee table make the space feel formal enough for business yet inviting enough for every day relaxation. The details weren't left behind once again:  Angelique had the corners of the ceiling painted with an intricate detail in warm shades of yellow and red, while she personalized the space with a wall mounted electric guitar signed by one of Don's favorite bands, The Eagles.  Further more, guests leaving the house read an inspiring Italian farewell - an inscription in Italian above the living room door frame saying "Live, Laugh and Love".

In the main hallway, above the entry, Angelique had the challenge of a large empty space with a lonely round window.  Her solution?  A custom-made wrought iron element to give scale to the window, tie in the large space and complement the wrought iron balusters on the staircase, while accentuating the height of the ceiling.

Don's office is now up to par with his business needs, and his clients enjoy the simple yet classy office setup.  The wall treatment is another subject of conversation, since the texture resembles gray sandpaper stripes - it is actually a special paint mix per Angelique's recipe, giving a nice interest to the otherwise formal space with classic dark-charcoal wood furniture.

The master suite is a great retreat in luxury, continuing the wrought iron accents, mood lighting, and a custom painted trey ceiling.

The Truza home is now a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and Italian hospitality to suit Don's both personal and business needs.

Fun Facts:

The change in space might have added to Don's luck, since the Villa Truza attracted another inhabitant of Italian heritage, Don's lovely new bride, Anne-Marie.

Designer's Tips:

If you have a bland and uninspiring space, adding color and texture can add life to any room.  Custom details that tie in with your personality or something from your background can add charm and whimsy and make you feel at home, while creating wonderful conversation pieces.  Play up your high ceilings with oversized accents such as custom wrought iron pieces, tapestries, or paintings.  Don't forget the ceilings: painted details will bring together the room and create interest, no matter the angle.
