Ellen - Phoenix: From Ashes to Fashion

Persona:

Female with feline friends.

Problem:

Single executive at Scripps Networks seeks fashionable, well-built, home requiring minimal maintenance to accommodate discerning guests, lots of travel and RA.

Solution:

Burn down existing, falling-down cottage on gorgeous, lake-view lot and custom-build a new home, designed by Angelique.

Beautiful back patio with built-in fireplaces and wrought iron gates.  Stained, slate-look concrete floors, tray and 11-foot ceilings and faux artistry throughout.  Commercial-grade kitchen with stainless steel countertop, full-sized bar and solid wood cabinets.  Hammered copper built-ins and accents, sandstone fireplace.  Beautiful garden retreat.  One level for ease of movement.  Non-slip floors.  Almost no maintenance: composite concrete siding, stick-built on a slab.  Morrocan-style master bedroom suite with lighted constellations in the ceiling, walk-out to the courtyard, walk-in shower and Jacuzzi tub.  Extra windows throughout for natural element and custom lighting for every occasion.

Tips:

An open floor plan allows for delineated, functional spaces without taking away from the cozy feeling of a formal dining room or living room.  Use area rugs, art and lighting to seamlessly take visitors from one space to another.

Fun Facts:

This home features a custom cat house!  There are several feral cats in the woods behind Ellen's home.  To give them shelter and an escape from chase, a custom feline house was built on top of a 10-foot pole.  It has two, mini-french doors and two windows with see-through cat flaps.  The interior is two storeys with ramp between and holds two, mini, cat couches.
