Stephanie and Jeff- Elegant, Inspiring Entry and Landscape

Persona:

Married couple enjoying life and each other.

Problem:

Water, Water, everywhere! Although Jeff and Stephanie's initial desire was to remodel their kitchen, after Angelique discovered that their basement would occasionally flood and their retaining wall was deteriorating, they considered Angelique's recommendation and decided to address these structural issues first. After interviewing several companies, Jeff and Stephanie decided to work with Building Ideas.

Several steps needed to be taken to address the structural and drainage issues. There was no drainage to take the water away from the front of the house, so the entire yard had to be dug out around the front of the home so it could be waterproofed and drainage could be added. Since the existing retaining wall was deteriorating, it needed to be completely removed and rebuilt. Angelique suggested that while the excavation equipment would be on-site and the yard torn up, this would be the opportune time to re-landscape their front yard and add a new, curved sidewalk and landscape lighting. Excited with the prospect of a beautiful, new front yard, Jeff and Stephanie agreed, and the drawings began. Once they saw the drawings and agreed on the shape of the sidewalk, color scheme of the wall, location of the lighting and the selection of plants, the excavation began!

After enduring months of rainy weather and a muddy front yard, Stephanie and Jeff finally had a beautiful, finished landscape, just in time for spring. All they needed was some furniture to sit on so they could enjoy their porch ... so ... Building Ideas selected and installed the furnishings and decor to suit their comfortable, Southern lifestyle.

NEXT PROJECT ... the KITCHEN!!!

Solution:

Fix broken retaining wall and create a beautiful and inviting landscape and entry. Highlight architectural detail of columned porch and create a meandering path to enter the residence.

Designer's Tips:

As much as we love to make things beautiful, if the structure where we create is broken or damaged- that needs to be addressed first. Hiring a home inspector can save you thousands of dollars by addressing issues with your home early on before they become major repairs.

Also, don't ignore your front yard and entry- this is the first thing your visitors and guests see. Allow your home to shine- by highlighting its architecture and landscaping with flood and spot lights. This creates drama and interest and allows your home to stand out from the rest.
