Living in the Mess

3. Living in the Mess - Remodeling isn't Pretty

Anyone who says it was easy to live through a remodel was living at the beach and their remodeling project was somewhere else!  Face it, remodeling is a messy, dirty job, and it takes time.

Things to Accept

  1. It will be messy.  Although we will ‘clean', it will be ‘contractor clean,' not ‘I can eat off mom's floor clean'.
  2. People will be in your space.
  3. Your schedule may be interrupted.  We will do our very best to accommodate your schedule, after all, this is YOUR job. ;-)
  4. You may be without electricity, water, HVAC, or a place to make dinner (if you're remodeling your kitchen).  In such case, plan a ‘fun' day at the movies, water park, etc.
  5. Extra dust will be present up to six months after a project is completed.
  6. Be patient, it will get done ... remodeling too, shall pass!
  7. We want to make this as easy and as fun as possible for you and your family!

Here are some of the things you will encounter during your remodeling project.

If walls get demolished, drywall and insulation dust will be in the air.  There will be an odor coming from inside the walls.  There may be nails and other sharp objects on the floor.  There will be noise from saws and hammers.

If flooring is removed, there will be wood splinters and a danger of falling, since the floor will be open to whatever is below.  There may be nails and other sharp objects on the floor.  There will be noise from hammers, etc.

If you're getting new or replacing old lighting, there will be no electricity (which includes heating and air conditioning) while the workers are working. There may be nails and other sharp objects on the floor.

If you're replacing windows and/or doors, bugs and outdoor things may enter.  Heat and/or A/C will escape during removal and before the new items are installed.  There may be nails and other sharp objects on the floor.  There will be noise from hammers, etc.

If you're laying tile, there will be noise from saws, sludge from the saw, and there may be nails and other sharp objects on the floor.  You will not be able to walk on the ‘new' floor for 24-48 hours after it's finished.

If you're redoing plumbing, you will be without water, and you may not be able to use toilets.  There may be nails and other sharp objects on the floor.
